During my time at Compass Rose, I received tremendous support from the staff and overall community. I felt valued as an individual and was not judged by my past, which was very important to me. My entire experience at Compass Rose has impacted me positively and contributed to the person I am today.
“HONESTLY, I DID NOT REALIZE HOW MUCH I HAVE LEARNED AND CHANGED FROM THIS PROGRAM UNTIL I HAD LEFT. THIS EXPERIENCE HAS HAD A PROFOUND IMPACT ON BOTH MY PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL LIFE.”
The houseparents have one of the most difficult and important positions at Compass Rose Academy, and they played a significant role in my treatment. I was able to connect with them and trust them while creating lasting memories along the way. All of the staff worked so hard to help me, and everything they did was in my best interest.
The therapy I received at Compass Rose has helped me work through difficult areas of my life that I suppressed for many years. I am now able to identify with my feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. The growth model provided me with the foundation that was necessary for my treatment and growth. I am able to rely on this model for guidance, structure, and direction.
I am currently a senior at Northern Illinois University, studying public health with an emphasis in health promotion. I have recently been accepted to graduate school to continue my education, through the Master of Public Health program. My future goals consist of pursuing a career in epidemiology to study the occurrence and distribution of disease in populations and contribute to the investigation of disease outbreak.
I truly believe that if I did not begin taking college courses online while at Compass Rose, I very well might not have attended college at all. To this day, I stay connected with the staff and some of the peers I met throughout my journey. Even though several years have gone by, I feel just as supported today as I did the day I left Compass Rose.
